Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WNBA match.
The New York Liberty have been handed a tough start to the regular season. Following back-to-back matchups against the Golden State Valkyries, the Liberty now face a back-to-back clash on the road against the Washington Mystics. It’s the perfect opportunity for the reigning champions to reaffirm their title credentials.
Washington Mystics
The Mystics have been anything but consistent early in the season. They snapped a three-game losing streak last time out — and only thanks to a slew of injuries to the Indiana Fever’s key players (83:77). The main concern for the Mystics is their offensive production. They rank among the bottom five in scoring, averaging just 79.2 points per game with a modest 43.3% shooting from the field.
New York Liberty
The Liberty’s strength doesn’t stop at their high-powered offence. They currently rank second in the WNBA for fewest points allowed per game (76.8), and hold opponents to a league-best 37.5% shooting. Their defensive versatility stands out as well — they lead the WNBA in blocks per game (6) and sit top-three in steals (10).
Washington Mystics vs New York Liberty Prediction
The Liberty have allowed more than 78 points just once this season — and that came against the Indiana Fever with Caitlin Clark leading the charge. Against a significantly less dangerous Washington side, their defensive discipline should once again shine through.
