Adam Williams presents his prediction for the MLB match.
The Baltimore Orioles, currently 13th in the American League, are going through a tough spell. After suffering a crushing 2:24 defeat to the Cincinnati Reds, they followed it up with back-to-back losses to the Washington Nationals—0:7 and 3:4. Heading into the final game of the series in the early hours of Friday, the Washington Nationals have a chance to complete a clean sweep.
Washington Nationals
The Washington Nationals are serious about their intentions, as shown by their selection of a starting pitcher. MacKenzie Gore, the third overall pick in the 2017 draft, looks ready to have a breakout season. Over his first five starts, MacKenzie Gore has recorded an impressive strikeout-to-walk percentage (K/BB) of 31.1%, nearly double his career average of 16.2%. His expected ERA has improved from 4.2 to 3.05. Still only 26 years old—which is relatively young for a pitcher—MacKenzie Gore appears to be living up to his potential.
Baltimore Orioles
On the other hand, the Baltimore Orioles pitcher Cade Povich has yet to show anything particularly convincing. His K/BB% is just 10.2%, and his ERA is 4.88—below league average. Moreover, the Baltimore Orioles have lost each of Cade Povich’s last three starts, including games against the Kansas City Royals and the Cincinnati Reds—teams that are not ranked among the top eight in either league.
Washington Nationals vs Baltimore Orioles Prediction
When it comes to the bullpens, neither the Washington Nationals nor the Baltimore Orioles have a distinct advantage. Given MacKenzie Gore’s expected start, the Washington Nationals are likely to come out strong in the early innings. This makes the first five innings particularly interesting to watch, as it’s where they’re likely to establish a lead.
