Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Last season both Watford and Blackburn Rovers flirted with the play-off places, only to fall short of the top six. This year they’ve each dropped more than half of their points already, so there’s ground to make up.
Watford
Watford stumbled straight out of the gate, losing 0:1 to newly-promoted Charlton Athletic. Once they started finding the net, results improved — five points from the next three games. Both teams to score has landed in every match, and over 2.5 goals in two of the three. At Vicarage Road Watford have struck twice in each outing, including a 2:2 draw with Southampton.
Blackburn Rovers
Blackburn opened last season with a scoring spree — over two goals per game — and sat fifth after four rounds. This time, despite being 19th in the table, they are at least maintaining a return of one goal per game. The bigger concern is their points average of just 1.06 since Valérien Ismaël’s arrival last winter. How much longer will patience hold?
Watford vs Blackburn Rovers Prediction
If Rovers lose at Watford it’s unlikely to be by a big margin, but I fancy the Hornets to take something from the game. A draw feels just as likely, with goals on the menu too. Between them they should manage at least two, as has been the case in seven of their last ten meetings.
