Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Watford damaged their slim playoff hopes with a defeat in the last round, making their chances almost non-existent. Swansea City gave up on such ambitions even earlier, sinking into mid-table mediocrity.
Watford
Watford had a strong defensive run before their last match, keeping three consecutive clean sheets and collecting seven points. However, they wasted their chances against Millwall (1:2) despite leading after 30 minutes. The numbers tell a frustrating story—1.53 xG vs 0.70 xGA, yet they couldn't convert their dominance. Even in their previous 2:0 home win over Luton Town, Watford underperformed (2.42 xG).
Swansea City
Swansea City have also prioritised defence over attack, keeping three consecutive clean sheets. Goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux has been key, already recording 10 shutouts this season. However, their attacking output has been poor, scoring only four goals in their last three matches, with three of them coming against Blackburn Rovers. Since early February, five of their last seven matches have gone under 2.5 goals.
Watford vs Swansea City Prediction
Swansea City haven’t gained much from their defensive approach away from home, but they remain unpredictable. Instead of picking a winner, the under 2.5 goals market looks like the safest choice.
