Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the English Premier League match.
Both Everton and West Ham United find themselves in unfamiliar territory this season. Both clubs lost their previous matches, but the hosts seem more likely to avoid extending their losing streak.
West Ham United
West Ham suffered a heavy defeat against Nottingham Forest (0:3), albeit away from home. Before that, they were thrashed by Tottenham Hotspur (1:4), also on the road. But doesn't this next opponent seem to be of a smaller level? Based on last season, that’s certainly the case. However, West Ham were recently defeated by teams that are not just avoiding relegation but are in the Champions League spots, currently above Tottenham Hotspur. Everton certainly are not in that bracket.
Everton
Everton sit in 16th, which can be considered a relief. Just five rounds ago, their situation seemed dire, as they were second from bottom, having conceded 14 goals. Their recent form offers some hope: two wins, two draws, and a single defeat. However, this loss came against the, so far, weakest club in the Premier League, Southampton (0:1). Everton became the first to lose to them. Everton were expected to win, but despite 16 attempts, three clear chances, and 1.56 xG, they failed to convert, conceding in the 85th minute with little time to recover. Away from home, they have disappointed, collecting just 4 out of a possible 15 points.
West Ham United vs Everton Prediction
West Ham’s two away losses were against more organised clubs on the road. At home, they are dangerous and need to improve their standing. Everton are not in the league of Aston Villa, Manchester City, or Chelsea, teams to which they have lost. While their play shows promise, a setback like the one against Southampton can lead to disappointment again. Therefore, we wouldn’t place our hopes on West Ham United in this fixture. The result is likely to favour the hosts.
