Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Europa League Qualifying match.
The first leg in Greece ended goalless, meaning the fate of a place in the Europa League play-off round will be decided in Klagenfurt. The winner will guarantee themselves European football in the autumn, while the loser will drop into the Europa Conference League.
Wolfsberger
Wolfsberger are in better playing rhythm, with the Austrian season already under way. In the league, the team beat Austria Wien (2:0) and lost to Altach (0:2), while in the cup they eased past Waller (3:1). In their four official matches this season, excluding the cup tie against an amateur side, the total number of goals has not exceeded 2.5. In the first leg with PAOK, the Austrians relied on quick counter-attacks and showed solid defensive organisation, limiting the Greeks to just 0.29 xG and no shots on target.
PAOK
PAOK are still preparing for the new Greek Super League campaign. They have played four friendlies, winning only twice against modest opposition (Apollon 3:1 and NEC 3:2). In the Europa League, the team faced stubborn resistance. Despite enjoying 64% possession in the first leg against Wolfsberg, PAOK managed only six efforts towards goal in the entire 90 minutes.
Wolfsberger vs PAOK Prediction
Wolfsberger, at home, should not let their chance slip and are likely to deliver the same defensive resilience seen in the first meeting. The Austrians are capable of neutralising the visitors’ attack and at least holding out for a draw.
