Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Women's Champions League match.
The last time Wolfsburg and Barcelona faced off was in the Women’s Champions League final in the summer of 2023 (2:3). Back then, the German club almost pulled off a sensational victory, taking the lead by half-time, but the Catalan side came back to claim the title. This time, on Wednesday, Barcelona’s dominance is expected to be the defining theme of the match.
Wolfsburg (women)
During the current Champions League group stage, Wolfsburg struggled to compete with last season’s runners-up, Olympique Lyonnais (0:2 and 0:1). Since 7 February, they have managed just two wins in five matches, suffering a German Cup elimination by Hoffenheim (0:1) in the process. Last Friday, they were ineffective in front of goal against Bayern Munich (1:3, 1.28–2.22 in xG). Right now, Wolfsburg are finding it extremely difficult to compete on equal terms with Europe’s elite.
Barcelona (women)
The relentless progress of Barcelona’s women’s team has brought them to peak form at the business end of the season. They are currently on an eight-match winning streak, scoring 3+ goals in five of those games. Their recent El Clásico encounters with Real Madrid in the Copa de la Reina (5:0 and 3:1) demonstrated that they are fully focused on completing the treble. Now, their attention shifts to the Champions League.
Wolfsburg (women) vs Barcelona (women) Prediction
Wolfsburg’s inconsistency will prevent them from delivering a perfect defensive performance. Barcelona’s star-studded attack will suffocate their opponents with high pressing, converting every chance into a potential goal.
