Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the English Premier League match.
At the halfway stage of the season, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City were level on points, but their trajectories have since diverged significantly over the last 14 rounds. Wolverhampton Wanderers have secured their English Premier League status, while Leicester City have struggled to keep pace.
Wolverhampton Wanderers
Wolverhampton are not just safe — they are currently the most in-form team in the league, the only side to have taken maximum points from their last five matches. A major contributing factor to this run is the quality of opposition: they faced only teams placed no higher than 13th in the standings — Southampton, West Ham United, Ipswich Town, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. Four of those victories were by a one-goal margin, with only the match against Tottenham Hotspur ending in a two-goal win.
Leicester City
Leicester City, in contrast, have managed just four points over the same stretch — a comeback 2:1 win against Tottenham Hotspur early in the second half of the season, and a recent 2:2 draw with Brighton. That victory owed much to the poor display from Tottenham Hotspur. The squad’s core issue has been a lack of attacking output. In the other 12 league matches this calendar year, they have scored just once — a goal by Stephy Mavididi against Aston Villa on 4 January.
Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Leicester City Prediction
Coming up against a team in such strong form while showing so little going forward is unlikely to end well. Wolverhampton Wanderers are expected to find the net at least once, especially with Matheus Cunha leading the line.
