Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Europa League match.
Both Young Boys and Panathinaikos advanced through UEFA Europa League qualifying, and as the group stage begins both sides will be determined to take points.
Young Boys
Young Boys have begun the season impressively, beating solid opponents in Lugano (3:1) and Luzern (2:1). Before that, the team have eliminated Slovan Bratislava in UEFA Europa League qualifying (3:2 and 1:0). Chris Bedia has been outstanding in these games, delivering six goal involvements (5+1). His partnership with Christian Fassnacht, who has scored twice, is a genuine threat to opponents.
Panathinaikos
Panathinaikos have struggled at the start of the season. The team have recorded just one win in their last five matches, and that came in the Greek Cup against a second‑tier club. The main concern remains the defence. In their most recent match, Olympiacos registered nine shots and posted 1.04 xG. The opposition here are a level above.
Young Boys vs Panathinaikos Prediction
Young Boys will aim to make a strong start to their European campaign at home. Their leading players are in form, so the visitors’ porous defence should not stop them.
