Dutch Grand Prix 2024: Predictions and Betting Odds

The Dutch Grand Prix will take place from August 23 to 25 at the Zandvoort circuit. This will be the 15th race of the current season and the first race after the traditional summer break.

So what odds have the betting sites prepared for the Dutch round? The best odds for the race weekend are in our review.

After the Belgian Grand Prix, bookmakers have shifted Max Verstappen from being the absolute favorite. According to some sportsbooks, Lando Norris has an equal chance of winning the upcoming race.

Who will win the Dutch Grand Prix?

Odds for the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix Winners

George Russell's disqualification has seriously hindered Mercedes' plans to improve their position in the Constructors' Championship. However, despite this slip-up with the tires, it has become clear that the "Silver Arrows" are finally capable of not just keeping pace with the top teams but also competing for the top spot on the grid.

As for the championship leader, it’s too early to write off the "Red Bull" team and blame Max Verstappen for not making it into the top three. This is especially true given the fact that he had to drop several positions before the start due to a power unit change.

Meanwhile, bookmakers continue to believe in Lando Norris, who still has a slim chance to challenge Verstappen for the title by the end of the season.

At the recent Belgian Grand Prix on July 26, Max Verstappen finished in 4th place, Lando Norris in 5th, and Lewis Hamilton emerged victorious after Russell's disqualification from pole position.

Betting Odds for the 2024 Formula 1 Drivers' Championship

Although Norris is closing in on Verstappen, his chances of winning the championship are still slim. Additionally, a more significant threat may come from Charles Leclerc, who is set to race at Zandvoort with substantial upgrades to his car.

According to insiders, Ferrari has redesigned the aerodynamic elements of their car and significantly improved the suspension's efficiency. If this is the case, it could help Ferrari deliver an excellent performance at the twisted and challenging Zandvoort circuit.

As for Lewis Hamilton, if he manages to secure another top-three finish, there's a strong chance he could move up to 4th or 5th in the overall standings after this race. Unlike Ferrari, Mercedes has already received and tested their updates, proving they can now deliver significantly better performance. This raises questions among Red Bull fans about whether it’s time for their championship leader to get his updates or if the team is counting on continuing to lose points until the end of the season.

History of the Dutch Grand Prix

The first Dutch Grand Prix took place at Zandvoort in 1948. The event was held there until 1985 when it was removed from the calendar. The circuit was only renovated in 2021, when it hosted the first modern Formula 1 race.

The all-time record for the Dutch Grand Prix belongs to Jim Clark, who won four times (1963, 1964, 1965, 1967). In the modern Formula 1 era, Max Verstappen is the leading driver with three victories (2021, 2022, 2023), making him the only driver to have won at this circuit since its renovation.

With the same number of wins, Niki Lauda and Jackie Stewart share the second position.

Among the teams, Ferrari holds the record with eight wins. Lotus is in second place with six victories, while McLaren and Red Bull are tied in third with three wins each.

Can Lewis Overcome Max at His Home Circuit?

Firstly, it's worth noting that Hamilton has never had issues at Zandvoort. As always, he will benefit from significant experience compared to drivers for whom this track remains a new challenge.

However, it is difficult to predict any incredible successes in qualifying. In Belgium, Max Verstappen was ahead of Lewis by seven-tenths of a second in the third qualifying segment, and if it weren’t for the engine penalty, he likely would have maintained that position in the race.

On the other hand, Hamilton and Russell have been pushing their cars to the limit in recent qualifying sessions, often struggling to break into the top five. With McLaren continuing to improve their pace and Ferrari also not lagging behind with their promised significant updates, Lewis and George are likely facing one of the most challenging Grands Prix of the season.

Dutch Grand Prix Prediction

Nevertheless, betting on the Arrows drivers making it into the top three still looks appealing. In Belgium, they demonstrated that with the right setup, they are competitive with their closest rivals on the straights, and in corners, they've long had no issues with increasing pace and managing tire wear.

Max remains a logical favorite at his home track. Given the speed of the Red Bull in qualifying, he will likely start from no worse than second place, unless there is a mistake on his part or an exceptional performance from the McLaren drivers.

If we exclude Verstappen from the equation, assuming he will secure first place, the main contenders for the second and third positions are Hamilton, Russell, and both McLaren drivers.

As for Ferrari’s chances, while intimidating opponents with updates is a good strategy, we still lack confidence that they will deliver the desired results on such a unique and challenging track.

Therefore, betting on Verstappen’s victory and a podium finish for one of the "Arrows" drivers still seems like a decent, albeit risky, option.
