Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the UEFA Europa League match.
Anderlecht are currently struggling, and Ferencváros are poised to take advantage of this. Expect a tense match with a low goal count.
Anderlecht
Anderlecht have had a shaky start to the season (standing in sixth place), similar to most Belgian leaders apart from Genk. Consequently, Anderlecht have the same number of points as the second-placed Gent. The team is in the midst of a winless streak: they haven't won in their last four matches and failed to score in three of them. Last weekend, they couldn't overcome Royal Charleroi at home (0:0), largely due to creating very few chances: 10 (4) shots and just 1.14 xG. The visitors responded with almost the same numbers. It's fortunate they only had to play in the final qualifying round of the Europa League against Dinamo Minsk, who haven't been exceptional. Both matches ended 1:0. Regarding a bet on the total under 2.5, it has been successful in 7 out of 10 official matches this season.
Ferencváros
The Hungarian side attempted to reach the group stage of the Champions League but failed in the penultimate qualifying round, losing to Midtjylland over two legs (0:2, 1:1). Ferencváros eventually squeezed into the Europa League, but only through a penalty shootout (0:0, 1:1). Bosnian side Borac Banja Luka, who were less likely to succeed, almost made it to the main stage. But Ferencváros managed to equalise in extra time and then succeeded in the penalty shootout (3:2). Notably, in matches with relatively equal opponents, no more than two goals were scored. In the Hungarian league, the champions are performing better. They have won all five of their matches but are currently in second place due to having a game in hand. The team has been winning by only a one or two-goal margin.
Anderlecht vs Ferencváros Prediction
Given the scoring patterns of both clubs in European and domestic competitions, we see nothing closer to reality than a low goal count.
