Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the La Liga match.
Athletic Bilbao
Over the course of the first 37 matchdays, Athletic Bilbao have been the only team in La Liga to concede fewer than 30 goals (26). Their recent 1:0 victory over Valencia marked a third consecutive clean sheet. In fact, they last conceded on 20 April, in a narrow 0:1 defeat away to Real Madrid. Athletic Bilbao have had 24 league matches this season end with fewer than 2.5 goals — only Getafe have more, with 25.
Barcelona
Since securing the title, Barcelona have shown signs of complacency, as seen in their 3:2 defeat to Villarreal, where they allowed two goals in the second half. It is anticipated that squad players will once again be given opportunities. In their most recent outing, despite enjoying 69% possession, the squad managed only 1.26 xG. The toll of a long campaign is apparent, with just two of their last five La Liga away fixtures featuring more than 2.5 goals.
Athletic Bilbao vs Barcelona Prediction
In January, Athletic Bilbao fell short against Barcelona in the Supercopa de España semi-final, losing 0:2. However, home support could provide an important lift as Athletic Bilbao look to hold their ground against the champions.
