Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Copa Libertadores match.
These two sides are expected to compete for the second qualifying spot from Group F, with Bahia looking well-positioned to finish top. This head-to-head clash is vital for both teams. Currently, Internacional sit two points ahead of Atlético Nacional, but the Colombian side have the benefit of playing at home.
Atlético Nacional
The reigning Colombian champions are currently second in their domestic league after 17 rounds, but have picked up just two wins in their last five outings. Both were convincing home victories—4:1 over Boyacá Chicó and 3:0 against Deportivo Pasto—but neither opponent belongs to the top tier of Colombian football. Against stronger opposition, Atlético Nacional have dropped points, regardless of the venue.
Internacional
Atlético Nacional also suffered a 0:3 defeat to Internacional in the first leg. Although they were reduced to ten men in the 70th minute after a foul by Marino Inestrosa, they were already 0:1 down. The team had the better of the first half, registering nine shots to four and creating more promising chances (0.48–0.18 in xG), but failed to turn their dominance into goals. On the other hand, Internacional are holding their own in one of Latin America's most competitive leagues—Brazil’s Serie A. They currently sit ninth after seven rounds, with their only defeats coming against current leaders Palmeiras (0:1) and Corinthians Paulista (2:4).
Atlético Nacional vs Internacional Prediction
While the general outlook slightly favours a home win for Atlético Nacional, the overall quality of Internacional and the result of the previous meeting suggest the Brazilian side are well-placed to avoid defeat.
