Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the 2026 World Cup Qualification match.
Just a few days ago, Uruguay were sitting second in the standings and on the brink of chasing down top spot. Now, after a narrow defeat, they’ve slipped to fourth — and with the table as tight as it is, even sixth is within striking range. Bolivia, on the other hand, are clinging to seventh, still in the hunt for a play-off place.
Uruguay
Uruguay missed a golden opportunity to cement their status among the leaders, falling 1:0 to Argentina at home. They managed just six shots (two on target) and barely created any meaningful chances. Sergio Rochet made several key saves, but was finally beaten by a long-range strike. Things will be different against Bolivia, of course: their players aren’t as skilled.
Bolivia
This clash takes place in El Alto, a Bolivian fortress 4,150 metres above sea level. Playing at such dizzying heights is a challenge in itself. It’s tough to breathe, let alone sprint, press and recover. And Bolivia use that to their full advantage. They've turned home matches into ambushes: unbeaten in four at elevation during this campaign (three wins and a draw). Their last defeat here in World Cup qualifying came against Ecuador (2:1), a team accustomed to playing at altitude themselves.
Bolivia vs Uruguay Prediction
The Uruguayans, who are used to living at lower altitudes, will find it difficult. Their last meeting in the Andes ended in a 3:0 victory for the home side. That was even after they missed a penalty and received a red card. So, given this specific factor, we’re choosing a neutral handicap on Bolivia.
