Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Bundesliga match.
One of the most crucial fixtures in the race for Champions League qualification will take place in Dortmund, where Borussia Dortmund will host Stuttgart. The hosts trail their opponents by four points, and with both teams struggling defensively, this clash is likely to feature plenty of goals.
Borussia Dortmund
A disastrous start to 2025 saw Borussia Dortmund lose four consecutive matches, prompting the club to part ways with Nuri Şahin. Under interim boss Mike Tullberg, the team have looked much sharper in attack, generating 4.18 xG in their last two games against Werder Bremen (2:2) and Heidenheim (2:1). In the winter transfer window, Borussia Dortmund reinforced their midfield by signing attacking playmaker Carney Chukwuemeka, who should help provide more service to top scorer Serhou Guirassy (9+2 in the Bundesliga).
Stuttgart
Stuttgart hit a rough patch in late January, losing three consecutive matches to Mainz (0:2), Paris Saint-Germain (1:4), and Borussia Mönchengladbach (1:2), exposing weaknesses in their squad. However, they remain a serious attacking force, creating 9.18 xG in five Bundesliga matches in 2025 (5th-best in the league). The main concern for Stuttgart is their physical condition after a tiring midweek DFB-Pokal match against Augsburg (1:0), which may affect their performance in Dortmund.
Borussia Dortmund vs Stuttgart Prediction
Borussia Dortmund haven’t beaten Stuttgart since October 2022, and the first meeting this season ended in a 5:1 thrashing for Stuttgart. However, given the hosts’ resurgence under their interim coach and Stuttgart’s recent struggles, Borussia Dortmund are favoured. The safest bet here is over 2.5 goals, as both teams struggle defensively but create plenty of chances.
