Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Bundesliga match.
Both sides have been impressive in the second half of the Bundesliga and remain in contention for European qualification. Their head-to-head encounters have consistently produced goals, with both teams scoring in all three of their meetings last season.
Borussia Mönchengladbach
After a poor start to 2025 with three consecutive league defeats, Borussia M'gladbach have bounced back impressively. Since 25 January, they have won four of their last six matches (13 points), a tally only bettered by Bayern Munich (16 points) in that period. Their latest victory, a 3:0 win over Heidenheim, was achieved despite missing top scorer Tim Kleindienst (14+5). Borussia M'gladbach dominated, generating 2.04 xG, and demonstrated their improved attacking efficiency.
Mainz
The return of star forward Jonathan Burkardt has revitalised Mainz. The 23-year-old striker, currently second in the Bundesliga’s Golden Boot race (14+2), has played a key role in Mainz’s recent 10-point haul from their last four matches, which included a 2:1 away win against RB Leipzig. Defensively, however, Mainz have struggled on the road. Their 22.06 xGA away from home ranks among the worst in the division.
Borussia Mönchengladbach vs Mainz Prediction
Borussia M'gladbach will be without Joe Scally due to suspension, which could further expose their defence. Their reverse fixture ended 1:1, and given both teams’ attacking improvements, a similar outcome looks likely.
