Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the English Premier League match.
Chelsea, who are second in the standings, travel to west London to face Brentford, who are sliding towards the bottom. However, that does not mean Chelsea can bank three points already.
Brentford
Brentford spent much of last season near the top on the back of formidable home form, where they were unmatched until winter. They have since lost the forward pairing that delivered nearly 60% of their goals, Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa. The onus is now on Igor Thiago. The Brazilian is carrying the squad for now, with three goals in four matches. Brentford’s only league win so far was earned by Dango Ouattara, who scored the only goal against Aston Villa.
Chelsea
It has been difficult to score against Chelsea, and coming away with a win was almost impossible this summer. Only Flamengo managed it in the FIFA Club World Cup group stage (3:1). Since then Chelsea have recorded seven wins in eight competitive fixtures. Only Crystal Palace held out for a goalless draw, thanks to goalkeeper Dean Henderson, even though Chelsea generated 1.60 xG. A major boost has been the newcomer João Pedro, who has already scored twice, including the winner against Fulham (2:0).
Brentford vs Chelsea Prediction
Chelsea should score again, but Brentford have strong prospects of a home goal as well with Igor Thiago in form. Our pick is both teams to score.
