Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the English Premier League match.
The 37th round of the English Premier League wraps up just three days after the previous fixtures. Liverpool, already confirmed as champions, head to the south coast to face Brighton & Hove Albion, a team also without any remaining objectives in the league. This sets the stage for a match in which both sides may play with a sense of freedom and enjoyment.
Brighton & Hove Albion
Brighton are likely to finish between 8th and 11th place, with just two points separating those spots. They currently sit ninth in the standings. In their last five games, they have picked up two wins—one at home and one on the road. They are unbeaten at home in their last three matches. Their last defeat at the Amex Stadium came on 2 April, a 0:3 loss to Aston Villa, although Aston Villa had strong motivation that day. Whether Liverpool can match that level of intensity remains uncertain.
Liverpool
Since clinching the title in Round 34, Liverpool have not had much time to ease off. They have faced historic rivals, where pride alone made defeat unacceptable. Still, they did suffer one loss—a 1:3 result against Chelsea. Against Arsenal, they led 2:0 at half-time but allowed the match to finish 2:2. The starting line-up showed clear signs of rotation in the game against Chelsea, which contributed to the defeat. Against Arsenal, Liverpool were close to full strength. Notably, Alisson Becker featured in goal, which typically correlates with a more solid defensive display.
Brighton & Hove Albion vs Liverpool Prediction
Even so, Brighton have a decent opportunity to earn a result against this version of Liverpool, which is why the hosts are viewed slightly more favourably. We expect Arne Slot to make several changes to the line-up for this visit, and are backing the home side to at least avoid defeat.
