Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Scottish Premiership match.
The first phase of the Scottish Premiership has concluded, and the league has split into two sections. In the Championship group, newly promoted Dundee United will take on the reigning champions Celtic.
Dundee United
It is already fair to say that the season has been a success for Dundee United. Returning to the top flight and immediately claiming fourth place – despite having what was considered only the eighth-strongest squad – is a major accomplishment. Scotland will send four clubs to European competitions next season. Dundee United will be battling primarily with Hibernian, who are three points ahead, and Aberdeen, who are level on points. Dundee United secured their place in the top four with three consecutive 1:0 victories in the final rounds of the first phase.
Celtic
Celtic have all but guaranteed themselves yet another league title. They currently hold a 15-point advantage over Rangers, with only five matches remaining in the Championship group. The squad also boasts a significant lead in goal difference: +75 compared to Rangers’ +33. To officially secure the title, Celtic need only a draw.
Dundee United vs Celtic Prediction
Celtic may prefer to seal the title in front of their home supporters, but their next home fixture is not until matchday 36. Before that, they must travel to Ibrox to face Rangers, who will be desperate for a result if they still have even the slightest mathematical chance. It would be wiser not to take any risks, so we expect the visitors to clinch their 55th league title this Saturday, matching Rangers’ tally – a milestone of great significance to them. However, we do not anticipate a rout against Dundee United. This team will not allow it. At most, a narrow one-goal defeat.
