Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the UEFA Champions League match
Last week, Dynamo Kyiv had a stroke of luck in their return match against Rangers when the Scottish club was reduced to ten men and conceded two late goals (2:0). Consistently high-scoring Red Bull Salzburg are another challenging opponent for the Ukrainian side, especially in defence.
Dynamo Kyiv
Despite playing with a numerical advantage from the 51st minute in Glasgow, Rangers still managed to create chances in the opponent’s half (7-5 in shots over 90 minutes). Dynamo Kyiv scored twice in the dying moments of the match through Oleksandr Pikhalyonok and Nazar Voloshyn — substitutes brought on by Oleksandr Shovkovskiy shortly before the goals. It is worth noting that since the start of the season, total over 2.5 were scored in four out of six of Dynamo’s games — in these matches, they always scored at least once.
Red Bull Salzburg
Red Bull Salzburg, under their new head coach Pepijn Lijnders, made a solid debut, with his players scoring five goals over 180 minutes against Twente (5-4 on aggregate). The standout performer for RB Salzburg has been Danish midfielder Maurits Kjærgaard, who has scored 3+2 in the last four matches, and he looks set to help his club reach the Champions League group stage. The Austrian side is on a nearly identical scoring streak to their upcoming opponents, scoring 20 goals in six official matches this campaign.
Dynamo Kyiv - Red Bull Salzburg Prediction
On a neutral field in Lublin, Dynamo Kyiv and Salzburg will kick off the Champions League qualifying play-off round with a high-scoring match. We predict that the teams will score at least three goals — it won’t be a problem for them.
