Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the UEFA Champions League match.
Even after losing an away game (1:2), Fenerbahçe didn’t lose chances to advance to the next round. On Tuesday, the head coach José Mourinho should show his talent for winning the crucial matches, the Portuguese coach needs a victory against the underdog.
Fenerbahçe
Lille had a lead most of the time in the first game. The Turkish side got back on level terms thanks to Irfan Can Kahveci’s excellent goal, but they conceded in injury time. The Turkish side was dangerous in attack, with nine shots on target. At home, José Mourinho will likely rely on his leaders’ skills: he quickly put new player Allan Saint-Maximin in the starting lineup and Youssef En-Nesyri will be an important substitution. On Saturday, Fenerbahçe won their first league match against Adana Demirspor (1:0), having a huge advantage (5-1 shots on target).
Lille
The official debut of Lille's new head coach, Bruno Génésio, can be called successful, though his players are close to the maximum they can do. The defensive pair of Alexsandro Ribeiro and Thomas Meunier are unlikely to have a more solid game, and goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier can't make saves in every goal-scoring situation (he made four saves in the first game). It's worth noting that in six summer friendlies, the underdog only once didn’t concede goals, and against a strong opponent, they won't be able to do the same.
Fenerbahçe - Lille Prediction
At home, with thunderous support, Fenerbahce will surely win and try to settle the tie in regular time. The Istanbul attack is too dangerous, they'll score at least twice.
