Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Copa Libertadores match.
Fortaleza and Colo-Colo, currently occupying the bottom two spots in Group E after three rounds, are set to face off at Castelão. However, Fortaleza find themselves in a slightly stronger position, enjoying a two-point lead over their Chilean counterparts.
Colo-Colo
Reaching second place, currently held by Argentina’s Racing Club, is well within reach; the Brazilians trail by a mere two-goal difference. However, this underwhelming performance in the continental tournament is mirrored by their precarious 16th-place standing in the Série A, hovering just above the relegation zone. Juan Pablo Vojvoda’s side is currently enduring a seven-match winless streak across all competitions, despite securing several draws during this period.
Fortaleza
Fortaleza were awarded a 3:0 away victory over Colo-Colo in their most recent meeting, though the result came via administrative decision. Under regular circumstances, the outcome would likely have been different. The Chilean club received sanctions, and their supporters were handed bans from attending five home and five away matches following serious incidents ahead of the 10 April fixture. Supporters without tickets attempted to breach the stadium gates, prompting a forceful police intervention and a resulting stampede. Tragically, two fans lost their lives. In response to the events, other spectators began throwing prohibited objects onto the pitch during the second half, with some even invading the playing area. The match was abandoned in the 70th minute at 0:0 and was never resumed.
Fortaleza vs Colo-Colo Prediction
A number of Colo-Colo’s fixtures were rescheduled, but since 10 March, they have suffered only one defeat on the pitch. During this stretch, they have secured three wins and four draws. Given Fortaleza’s current struggles, the Chilean side appear well positioned to extend their unbeaten run.
