Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Bundesliga match.
Both teams remain in contention for a top-four finish and have shown significant defensive improvements in recent weeks. Expect a cagey, tactical battle at the Europa-Park Stadion on Saturday.
Freiburg
Freiburg endured a difficult January, suffering three heavy defeats against direct European qualification rivals. However, those setbacks forced them to reassess their defensive structure, leading to an impressive turnaround. Since the start of February, Freiburg have kept five consecutive clean sheets, with four of those matches finishing under 2.5 goals. Despite this newfound solidity at the back, their attacking output remains a concern. In their recent goalless draw against Augsburg, Freiburg managed just three shots on target and recorded a modest 0.83 xG.
RB Leipzig
While Leipzig are thriving in the DFB-Pokal, where they are on course for a third final in four seasons, their league form has faltered, and a Champions League elimination has put Marco Rose's job at risk. Reports suggest RB Leipzig have already sounded out Erik ten Hag, but Jurgen Klopp, who oversees the club’s sporting direction, dismissed the idea. Leipzig's attacking inconsistency away from home is another concern. Their last two Bundesliga away matches have seen under 2.5 goals, with just six of their games this season hitting that mark—only Freiburg (7) and St. Pauli (8) have had more low-scoring fixtures. Against Mainz (1:2) last weekend, Leipzig managed just one shot on target in the second half, highlighting their offensive struggles.
Freiburg vs RB Leipzig Prediction
With both teams prioritising defensive organisation, neither side will take unnecessary risks. Expect a tight, low-scoring encounter where chances could be at a premium.
