Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Turkish Super Lig match.
Galatasaray have already wrapped up the league title nearly two weeks ago, but they will be eager to finish the season on a high note in front of their own supporters—particularly in this fiercely competitive Istanbul derby. Istanbul Basaksehir, meanwhile, have little left at stake, having already secured qualification for the Europa Conference League.
Galatasaray
The squad sealed the championship with two matches to spare and have shown no signs of slowing down. In their next outing, they extended their winning streak to seven with a 2:0 away win against Goztepe. Galatasaray have now posted three consecutive clean sheets, with two goals proving sufficient in each victory. They also claimed the domestic cup, comfortably defeating Trabzonspor 3:0 in the final, having already beaten Trabzonspor (2:0) in the league shortly before. Everything appears to be falling into place for Galatasaray.
Istanbul Basaksehir
Istanbul Basaksehir have also enjoyed a respectable campaign in their own right. They are set to finish the season in fifth place. Istanbul Basaksehir only re-entered the European qualification zone after Matchday 34, having been outside the top five since Matchday 8. Although Eyüpspor sit just one point behind, that is no longer a concern: Istanbul Basaksehir are not involved in the final round. Fifth place was already assured before Matchday 37, helping explain their lacklustre 3:2 home defeat to already-relegated Adana Demirspor.
Galatasaray vs Istanbul Basaksehir Prediction
After such a disinterested showing in their last home game, Istanbul Basaksehir are unlikely to pose much of a challenge to the newly crowned champions. A couple of well-taken goals should be enough to break them down.
