Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Serie A match.
In autumn, Genoa have managed only two accurate shots in four games. Juventus, since the arrival of Thiago Motta, is slowly revamping while continuing to rely on the solid defence instilled by the former manager Massimiliano Allegri.
Genoa
After a promising start to the campaign with two wins and a draw against Inter Milan (2:2), Genoa have gone on a four-match winless streak. They have underperformed their xG by 2.31 goals (6.31 xG with 4 goals). On Wednesday, the team suffered a significant setback, losing to Sampdoria in the Coppa Italia derby (1:2 after a penalty shootout). It is crucial for them to bounce back with a positive performance against the favourites to appease their fans.
Juventus
Juventus are also struggling in attack (4.23 xG – the 19th in Serie A), but they lead the Italian league in xGA by a large margin (2.27 and no goals conceded). Against Napoli (0:0), Thiago Motta adopted a restrictive style, registering just one shot on target. He is likely dissatisfied with the form of his main forward Dušan Vlahović, who was substituted at halftime for Timothy Weah – the American certainly works better in pressing.
Genoa vs Juventus Prediction
In the first five rounds, Genoa and Juventus combined had only three matches exceeding the total over 2.5 – all of which occurred in August. In Genoa, do not expect plenty of dangerous moments; the opponents are likely to have a low-scoring game.
