Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the 2026 World Cup Qualification match.
Before facing group favourites Croatia, the Czech Republic have a golden opportunity to climb to the top of Group L. Their win over the Faroe Islands (2:1) may not have been perfect in attack, but Gibraltar’s defence struggles against stronger opponents — and the Czechs will look to capitalise.
Gibraltar
Gibraltar managed only a bright start in their last outing against Montenegro (1:3). After scoring first, they were quickly pegged back and eventually overrun. The stats paint a clear picture: 3.27 xGA and 25 shots conceded — Montenegro, far from an elite side, dominated from start to finish. It’s difficult to see the team picking up even a single point during this qualifying campaign.
Czech Republic
Despite losing Tomas Holes to injury, the Czech Republic continued to push forward well against the Faroes. The win nearly slipped away late on, but Patrik Schick responded instantly with the winner. The team posted 2.13 xG and outshot their opponents (16–5 in shots), showing that the structure and attacking intent are firmly in place. The Czechs are now unbeaten in six (four wins, two draws), scoring two or more goals in four of those matches.
Gibraltar vs Czech Republic Prediction
This will be the first-ever meeting between Gibraltar and the Czech Republic, and there’s little reason to expect anything but a one-sided affair. With qualification for the 2026 World Cup firmly in their sights, the visitors know goal difference may matter — expect them to make the most of this opportunity.
