Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the World Cup qualifying match.
Greece are building form and, after being promoted to League A of the UEFA Nations League, will surely aim to consolidate that momentum in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. A home match against Belarus is an excellent opportunity to collect three points.
Greece
Greece have shown noticeable progress under a new coaching staff. There was a 2:1 win at Wembley against England, followed by comprehensive wins over Slovakia (4:1) and Bulgaria (4:0) in friendlies. Against stronger opposition such as Scotland, England and Slovakia, Greece do concede, but they are assured against underdogs and frequently keep clean sheets. The Greeks have recorded six clean sheets in their last ten matches.
Belarus
Belarus delivered an average UEFA Nations League campaign, winning only once against Luxembourg (1:0) and drawing four times. In friendlies the team looked decent, defeating Tajikistan (5:0), Azerbaijan (2:0) and Kazakhstan (4:1), but they suffered a 4:1 defeat against stronger opposition in Russia. The Belarusians are notably weaker than the Greeks, as they do not have players of the calibre of Vangelis Pavlidis, Christos Tzolis and Konstantinos Tsimikas.
Greece vs Belarus Prediction
The gulf in quality is clear. As hosts and as the favourites, Greece should control proceedings and score at least twice. Belarus may adopt a compact defensive shape, but containing the attack is unlikely.
