Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the 2026 World Cup Qualification match.
A solid start to the qualifying campaign continues with a crucial clash in Debrecen, where Norway are expected to take control and make use of their star power to break away on the scoresheet. With both sides aiming to build momentum, the Scandinavians look better equipped to take the points.
Israel
Israel kicked off their campaign with a narrow 2:1 win over Estonia, but there were signs of vulnerability. Despite dominating in xG (2.54–0.34), they conceded once from just three shots on target. That kind of defensive frailty could prove costly against a far more clinical Norwegian side. The defeat of Estonia may have eased pressure after a disappointing Nations League campaign, but bigger tests await.
Norway
Norway, on the other hand, are riding a wave of progress. Having earned promotion to League A in the Nations League, they opened their World Cup qualifying with a dominant 5:0 thrashing of Moldova, registering 2.95 xG and eight shots on target. Norway’s attacking strength was on full display, with Erling Haaland, Martin Ødegaard, and Alexander Sørloth all playing key roles in the dominant win. Even without injured centre-back Leo Østigård, the squad possesses significant depth and composure.
Israel vs Norway Prediction
With the game on neutral ground and Norway’s front line in top form, the visitors are rightly favourites. Israel have shown spirit, but lack the quality to match Norway’s pace and precision in the final third.
