Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the 2026 World Cup Qualification match.
Japan head into this final group-stage fixture already assured of their place at the 2026 World Cup. They have been ruthless in qualification, while Saudi Arabia face a high-stakes test, still battling with Australia for the second automatic qualifying spot.
Japan
Japan have been exceptional throughout the campaign: six wins and one draw from seven games, with a staggering average of 3.43 goals scored per match. They have scored at least twice in six of those matches, conceding only twice — once to China (3:1) and once to Australia (1:1). They’ve also beaten Saudi Arabia 2:0 in their last two head-to-head meetings, demonstrating a consistent edge.
Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia have managed just two wins in Group C. Their attacking output has been disappointing — just 0.57 goals per game, and defensively they’ve kept only three clean sheets in seven matches. More worryingly, they’ve conceded multiple goals to both Japan and Indonesia, and have struggled to make a mark against top-tier opposition throughout this cycle.
Japan vs Saudi Arabia Prediction
Even though Japan have already qualified, they’re unlikely to ease up when playing in front of their home crowd in Tokyo. With one of the most efficient and fluid attacking systems in Asia, the hosts are well-equipped to breach Saudi Arabia’s shaky back line and maintain their dominance.
