John Higgins played against Mark Selby in the British Open final yesterday, and today he will face Ken Doherty in the International Championship qualifying match. Regardless of how experienced a player is, it is very difficult to transition from a final on a big stage to a routine qualifying game. John played well in the previous tournament, so the victory here should be for the Scot.

Ken Doherty has played only four matches this season and lost all four — to Neil Robertson and Stephen Maguire without a chance, and with Xu Si and Liam Davis, he had opportunities but did not capitalise on them. Doherty now works more as a commentator than a player. The WST management gave Ken a wild-card to participate in the tour, and it is doubtful that Ken would have qualified without this wild-card.

We do not see any arguments in Doherty’s favour for this match. Most likely, Higgins will secure a confident win. However, we offer a value bet that there will be no century break in the match. There is no hope for Ken’s century break, and while John might achieve it, Higgins played all last week and now has to play non-stop the day after the final. It is uncertain whether John will make a century today.
