Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the 2026 World Cup Qualification match.
Kazakhstan return to the qualification campaign looking to bounce back from a defeat in Cardiff, and against a struggling Liechtenstein side, they will see this as a must-win occasion. There’s little room for error if they want to stay in contention.
Liechtenstein
Liechtenstein’s recent showings have done little to inspire confidence. In the Nations League D, they collected just two points in a group featuring San Marino and Gibraltar, conceding six goals across four games. Their weekend fixture — a 0:3 home defeat to North Macedonia — only reinforced the problems. The hosts allowed 2.53 xGA and nine shots on target, and now face additional selection issues with injuries to key players Maximilian Göppel and Sandro Wolfinger, further weakening an already limited squad.
Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan offered promising signs in a 2:0 friendly win over Curaçao before travelling to Wales. In Cardiff, they held their own for much of the first half, edging the xG (0.89–0.27) and shots on target (2–1) before the Welsh quality made the difference after the break. Still, Kazakhstan showed enough to suggest they’re moving in the right direction — and against a minnow like Liechtenstein, they will expect to control the match from start to finish.
Liechtenstein vs Kazakhstan Prediction
Kazakhstan’s quality and depth should be enough to secure a convincing away win. With Liechtenstein likely to make errors under pressure, the visitors should have plenty of chances to build a lead.
