Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the League One match.
Lincoln City
After a setback against Wimbledon (0:2), Lincoln responded with a seven-match unbeaten run across all competitions. In the league, that includes four games without defeat, plus progression in the League Cup and a convincing 3:0 win over Notts County in the EFL Trophy. Three clean sheets in their last five outings highlight their balance between attack and defence. The obvious problem, though, is the lack of a consistent goalscorer: their top scorers have just two goals apiece. Despite this, Lincoln remain in the top ten, only five points off the leaders.
Wigan Athletic
Wigan made a promising start to the campaign with three wins in their first four games, but form has dipped since. They’ve taken just four points from the last five rounds, drawing with Rotherham United (2:2) and Stockport County (1:1) and losing to Luton Town (0:1). Their mood took another hit with a shock home defeat to Salford (0:2) in the EFL Trophy. Still, there’s potential in this squad to push for the play-offs, but consistency is lacking. Importantly, even in weaker spells, Wigan manage to stay competitive, playing with width and regularly earning corners.
Lincoln City vs Wigan Athletic Prediction
Lincoln currently look more organised, but the lack of a reliable finisher limits their attacking output. Wigan aren’t in their best spell, yet their style of play allows them to dominate on corners, even against stronger opposition. They’ve won the corner count in five of their last six away games in all competitions, while Lincoln have come out on top for corners just once in their last seven at home.
