Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Club friendly match.
Marseille
Marseille have been one of the most active teams in the transfer market this summer, although the influx of new signings is yet to bring tangible results in pre-season. That’s understandable, considering changes have been made across all areas of the pitch, and Roberto De Zerbi is still in the process of fostering cohesion within the squad. Their last two friendlies — both ending 1:1 against Sevilla and Valencia — saw goals at both ends, with defensive vulnerabilities on display.
Aston Villa
Aston Villa, on the other hand, head into the new campaign with a settled squad, and that stability has clearly benefitted them during pre-season. In their latest outing, the team recorded a commanding 4:0 win over AS Roma. However, that clean sheet was something of an outlier. Even Nashville managed to breach their defence twice in a 2:2 draw, and it's worth noting that Aston Villa fielded a strong line-up in that match.
Marseille vs Aston Villa Prediction
There’s no obvious favourite here, but what seems clear is that neither side will adopt a conservative approach. Both teams have shown a commitment to attacking football in recent weeks, and their recent scorelines suggest we’re in for a lively match. A high-scoring contest looks likely, and we’re tipping Total Over 2.5 goals.
