Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the 2026 World Cup Qualification match.
Having secured promotion to Nations League A, Norway are under pressure to begin their World Cup 2026 qualifying campaign with a statement win. On paper, Moldova are not expected to pose much of a threat to the Scandinavian side, and March presents a real chance for Norway to take maximum points.
Moldova
In a Nations League group with Andorra and Malta, Moldova had the best chance to earn promotion to League C but fell short. A late penalty saw them lose away to Malta, in a match where they allowed 2.12 xGA compared to just 0.33 xG created. Moldova typically line up in a deep 5-4-1, relying on moments of individual brilliance from Ion Nicolaescu or backup strikers to create anything meaningful in attack.
Norway
Norway, by contrast, have found balance and structure. In their six-match Nations League campaign, they picked up four wins, scoring at least two goals in each victory. The attacking duo of Erling Haaland and Martin Ødegaard are both in excellent form, and they’re supported by a well-rounded core that includes Sander Berge, Kristoffer Ajer, Julian Ryerson, and Alexander Sørloth.
Moldova vs Norway Prediction
Norway are showing signs of being ready for major tournament football. Against a defensively-minded and overmatched Moldovan team, they should be able to establish a comfortable margin. A handicap win for the visitors looks the logical bet here.
