Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the English Premier League match.
Having finally parted with wantaway forward Alexander Isak, Newcastle United will look to justify favouritism against Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are tipped to survive. Newcastle United also want to fast-track the development of Nick Woltemade.
Newcastle United
Without Alexander Isak, Newcastle United struggled in attack, particularly away from home. They played out two goalless draws with Aston Villa and Leeds United (both 0:0). Only at St James' Park were they involved in a thriller, a 3:2 home defeat to Liverpool, but in that game Anthony Gordon was sent off. He will return only after Matchweek 5. Right at the end of the transfer window, Newcastle United added the Congolese forward Yoane Wissa to the deal for Nick Woltemade; he delivered 19 goals and 4 assists in the last English Premier League campaign.
Wolverhampton Wanderers
Wolverhampton have been involved in high-scoring games at the start of the campaign, mostly on the receiving end. In English Premier League Matchweek 1, Manchester City put four past them without reply (0:4). In the week before the international break, the team twice finished 3:2 — in the EFL Cup against West Ham United as winners, and in English Premier League Matchweek 3 against Everton as losers. The return of the first-choice centre-forward is in doubt: the Norwegian suffered an Achilles injury in late August. The squad has the worst defence so far (eight conceded) and already sits bottom, and they need to climb off the bottom.
Newcastle United vs Wolverhampton Wanderers Prediction
Against a potentially free-scoring Newcastle United attack, with Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa set to debut, Wolverhampton Wanderers are unlikely to withstand the pressure. We expect a high-scoring home win.
