Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Ligue 1 match.
Ahead of their Champions League last-16 ties, French representatives Paris Saint-Germain and Lille will face off in a key domestic clash. There is little need to remind anyone of the Parisians' red-hot form—they are relentlessly scoring against any opponent, and Lille’s defence is unlikely to pose much of a challenge.
Paris Saint-Germain
Over the past week alone, Paris Saint-Germain have scored 17 goals in three matches, including 7:0 thrashings of Stade Brestois in the Champions League and Stade Briochin in the Coupe de France. Against Olympique Lyonnais (3:2), PSG created 2.46 xG and registered eight shots on target—pressure that would break any defence. However, they also allowed their opponents to score twice in the dying minutes from 1.78 xG, highlighting a tendency to leave chances for the opposition.
Lille
Before their trip to Dortmund in the Champions League, Lille managed to climb into the Ligue 1 top four with crucial wins over Rennes (2:0) and AS Monaco (2:1). In four of their last five league matches, they have seen the over 2.5 goals market land. Defensive adjustments due to injuries have forced them into a more open style of play, leading to an increase in goals at both ends.
Paris Saint-Germain vs Lille Prediction
Since 7 February, Paris Saint-Germain have seen over 2.5 goals land in five of their last six matches across all competitions. The last two meetings between these sides in 2024 ended in identical 3:1 wins for PSG. Expect another high-scoring affair in this top Ligue 1 clash.
