Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match.
Peru
In June, during the Copa America group stage, Peru struggled to find the back of the net. Against Canada (0:1) and Argentina (0:2), they accumulated a total of 3.65 xGA, while generating slightly less than one expected goal in response. Facing top-tier opponents, they are likely to deploy a five-man defence, and breakthroughs from the veteran forward duo of José Paolo Guerrero and Gianluca Lapadula should not be anticipated.
Colombia
Impressive victories in friendlies against the USA (5:1) and Bolivia (3:0) hinted that Colombia could be the surprise package of the Copa America. Indeed, they reached the final, challenging Argentina (0:1 after extra time), with James Rodríguez becoming the tournament's leader in combined goals and assists (1+6). Another standout performer is Liverpool's Luis Díaz, who has been in fantastic form, recording 3+1 in 138 minutes over the last two Premier League matches.
Peru - Colombia Prediction
In the past five years, Colombia have secured four wins in six head-to-head matches with Peru. Currently, the difference in quality between the teams is too significant—Colombia should comfortably take all three points.
