Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Ligue 1 match.
Paris Saint-Germain’s opening to the new campaign has raised more questions than answers. They still look short of sharpness after a draining season that only ended in mid-July, and Angers’ compact low block could well frustrate them at the Parc des Princes.
Paris Saint-Germain
Paris Saint-Germain’s issues were already on show in the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham Hotspur (2:3 on penalties). Despite enjoying 74% possession, they generated less xG than Tottenham (1.29 vs 1.38). The Ligue 1 opener against Nantes (1:0) was equally unconvincing: Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Achraf Hakimi only appeared from the bench, and the champions managed just four shots on target from 1.43 xG against modest resistance.
Angers
Angers, meanwhile, came through a tough first test against newly promoted Paris FC (1:0). They played with 10 men from the 57th minute yet still created more xG than their opponents (0.97 vs 0.92). Expect coach Alexandre Dujeux to deploy two full-backs alongside a back three at the Parc, while goalkeeper Hervé Koffi looks in outstanding form after producing seven saves in that opener.
Paris Saint-Germain vs Angers Prediction
Head-to-head history favours Paris Saint-Germain: six straight wins against Angers since 2021/22, though in only one of those did they score more than three goals. Given their sluggish start, the smarter angle here looks to be on the hosts’ goal output rather than the result itself.
