These two sides head into Matchweek 34 of the English Premier League with little more than pride at stake. Southampton are left only with a mathematical chance of climbing to 18th place, which would ultimately change little in the grand scheme, while Fulham maintain a slim hope of sneaking into European contention.
Southampton
For Southampton, even a draw would represent progress. They have collected just 11 points from 33 matches so far. Their most recent point came deep into stoppage time last weekend against West Ham United. It’s fair to say that fans of teams who have dropped points to Southampton this season will be feeling frustrated. The squad have scored the fewest goals in the division (24) and conceded the most (78). That said, they have found the net in five of their last six outings, which has brought the ‘Both Teams to Score’ market into play.
Fulham
Fulham, meanwhile, also look like a team open to high-scoring affairs. Four of their last six matches have seen both sides score. However, in three of those, a single goal wasn’t enough for Fulham to take even a point. That changed when they put three past Liverpool, handing the eventual champions only their second defeat in the league this season (3:1).
