Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Premier League match.
In the last round, Leicester City secured their first victory, while fellow Premier League newcomers Southampton are still seeking theirs. The match will be held at St Mary's Stadium. Will home advantage finally help Southampton to triumph?
Southampton
The management continue to place their trust in Russell Martin, who guided the club to the Premier League. Southampton have invested €117 million, but those investments are yet to pay off. However, progress in their gameplay is evident: for two consecutive matches, they've scored more than their expected goals, netting once with 0.60-0.65 xG. They even managed a goal against Arsenal, withstanding their pressure for almost an hour, although defensive errors remain an issue. Aaron Ramsdale, familiar with his former teammates, played a key role.
Leicester City
Leicester's last match was a model example. They achieved a victory over Bournemouth (1:0), capitalising on minimal opportunities: 6 shots, 2 on target, with 0.79 xG. Moreover, they kept a clean sheet for the first time. The opposition's xGA was 2.16, but their inaccuracy was costly: only 2 of their 19 attempts were on target. It could have been enough for a win, but not this time. Despite only their first victory, Leicester have scored in every match this season. Scoring against Southampton shouldn't prove too difficult either.
Southampton vs Leicester City Prediction
We don't foresee a high-scoring affair, but both teams are capable of finding the net—given that their defences are far from perfect.
