Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Ligue 1 match.
Both clubs are currently positioned lower than they were last season, sitting mid-table. Stade Rennais are 13th, with Stade de Reims right behind them. Their recent performances explain why they find themselves struggling.
Stade Rennais
In their last match, Rennes faced Lille. While Lille are a strong side regularly competing for European spots, they played at home and should have done better. They were let off the hook multiple times—Lille missed a penalty in the first half after Brice Samba made a routine save. In the second half, a stunning Lille goal was ruled out, but centre-back Christopher Wooh was later sent off, leaving Rennes with 10 men. That proved costly, as Lille struck twice between the 80th and 86th minutes. Rennes barely threatened, producing just four off-target shots and a mere 0.46 xG.
Stade de Reims
Reims also lost at home, falling to Angers (0:1). They, too, were awarded a penalty, but Oumar Diakité sent his effort over the bar. By that point, they were already trailing after conceding in first-half stoppage time. Unlike Rennes, Reims at least showed attacking intent, managing 16 shots, though only four hit the target, with 1.68 xG.
Stade Rennais vs Stade de Reims Prediction
With Rennes struggling to create chances and Reims lacking cutting edge, this match has all the signs of a low-scoring affair. Expect a cagey contest where defences could dominate.
