Adam Williams presents his prediction for the Welsh Open snooker match.
Stan Moody
Stan Moody is ranked 71st, but even if he doesn't make it into the top 64 by the end of the season, he'll still remain on the tour according to the seasonal rankings. The top four players of the season who aren't in the top 64 stay for another two years, and Stan Moody currently leads this ranking. Of course, everything can change, but Stan is displaying a very good and mature game for his age. This season, Stan is ranked 41st in the seasonal rankings and has only lost to two players ranked below him—Oliver Lines and Cheung Ka Wai. However, Oliver Lines is an experienced and talented but inconsistent player, while Cheung Ka Wai is the 2024 World Amateur Champion. At the same time, Moody has been competing strongly against top-16 players and has showcased his talent at the highest level. There aren't many rising stars among young British players, but everything suggests that Stan Moody is only going to improve.
Chris Totten
Chris Totten is ranked 101st in the same seasonal rankings, and things are not going well for the Scot. Chris made his debut in 2017 but was unable to stay on tour, only making his return now through Q-School. Totten's best performance this season came in the UK Championship qualifying rounds, where he defeated Tian Pengfei (6:5) before losing to Xu Si in a deciding frame. In most of his other matches, Chris has struggled to produce the level of play required to get results. However, Totten’s most recent match was outstanding—he defeated Stuart Bingham (5:1), making two centuries of 103 and 102 points, and also took a frame with a break of 73 when Bingham had 72.
Stan Moody vs Chris Totten Prediction
If this match had taken place just a few days ago, we would favour Totten. However, since more than a month has passed, we believe the balance should tip in favour of Moody, who has been the more consistent player throughout the season.
