Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Serie A match.
An unexpected surge by Udinese to the top positions of the league has raised quite a few doubts, which were confirmed in their match against AS Roma (0:3). At home against the reigning champions, the team might once again falter defensively – the difference in class is too significant to ignore.
Udinese Calcio
Even after the setback against AS Roma, Udinese remain in the top three of Serie A, although they have the worst xGA (10.10). At the Stadio Olimpico, they conceded 1.98 expected goals with a shot differential of 9:16 (2:8 on target). Perhaps with Alexis Sánchez and Gerard Deulofeu back to full fitness, Udinese will be more vigorous and productive in attack, but the duo of Lorenzo Lucca and Florian Thauvin cannot alone compensate for all the defensive lapses with their brilliance up front.
Inter Milan
Since the international break, Inter Milan have failed to win in three consecutive games, although their last two opponents were top-level. While they nearly snatched a victory at Etihad Stadium against Manchester City (0:0), they underestimated AC Milan in the derby (1:2). It is evident that the defeat to their neighbours will anger the team, who have much to prove, even though Inter Milan are already in the top three of Serie A in terms of xG (9.53).
Udinese Calcio vs Inter Milan Prediction
Under the current coaching staff, Inter Milan have defeated Udinese in five out of six head-to-head matches (4:0 and 2:1 last season). They will secure three points on Saturday, while Udinese will return to a more familiar standings.
