Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the 2026 World Cup Qualification match.
This might not be the most dazzling match of the round, but it’s undoubtedly a high-stakes affair for both sides. With only the seventh spot realistically up for grabs — which offers a play-off lifeline rather than direct World Cup qualification — this clash could be decisive.
Venezuela
Venezuela currently sit eighth, just one point behind Bolivia in seventh. And crucially, they’re back on home turf — a place that’s proven to be a fortress. Venezuela collected 10 of their 12 qualifying points in front of their own fans in Maturín, where even Argentina and Brazil failed to secure victory (both matches ended 1:1). That home resilience has been the foundation of their campaign.
Peru
It’s been a dismal qualifying run for Peru. Just 10 points from 13 games, and their away form is even worse: one point from six trips, no goals scored, and ten conceded. Their last (and only) away point came all the way back in September 2023, a goalless draw in Paraguay. Since then — a string of defeats and a clear lack of threat going forward.
Venezuela vs Peru Prediction
Venezuela showed spirit against Ecuador last time out, grabbing a late equaliser in stoppage time. Peru, meanwhile, continue to look a shadow of their former selves from the previous qualification cycle. With home advantage and a genuine opportunity to jump into a play-off position, Venezuela have every reason to go for the win — and they’re more than capable of getting it.
