At home, Wolfsburg often have to grind out points, but consistency is missing: they have failed to win in four straight home matches. For Köln, this has been their best start for years — two wins and a firm place in the upper half of the standings.
VfL Wolfsburg
Wolfsburg have taken four points from the opening two rounds and are unbeaten. They beat Heidenheim (3:1), but in the second outing let all three points slip in the 89th minute after giving away a penalty. We would note that home fixtures remain an issue for the hosts: the team is winless in nine straight at home, and they have kept a clean sheet only once in that sequence. Against Köln, Wolfsburg have also struggled — three home defeats on the spin.
Köln
Köln have been the surprise package of the early season. After a narrow 1:0 victory over Mainz 05, the visitors brushed aside SC Freiburg (4:1) to climb to third place. Marius Bülter has stood out with one goal and two assists, while in a friendly against Rot-Weiss Essen, Luca Waldschmidt scored five times. Away from home, the visitors have been effective: five wins, one draw and one defeat across their last seven away games.

Köln are in excellent rhythm and should exploit Wolfsburg’s weakness in defence. Home advantage has offered the hosts little lately, so the visitors should take at least a point.
