Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the EFL Cup match.
Less than two years have passed since these clubs last met at the Bescot Stadium. Will the difference in the level of players make an impact? Walsall play in the fourth-tier league, while Leicester City are in the Premier League.
Walsall
Walsall have made a successful start to their League Two campaign, sitting in the promotion zone in third place after seven rounds. Last Saturday, they took three points away at Salford City (2:0), although it was a close call as the shot count was tied 19-19, and their opponent held 62% possession. Prior to that match, the team played against League One sides in the League Cup. In the first round, they overcame Exeter City on penalties (1:1) and then defeated Huddersfield Town (3:2) in the second round. Overall, in nine matches across three competitions, Walsall have averaged 1.9 goals per game and failed to score in only two.
Leicester City
Leicester City are currently in 15th place in the Premier League, but their last match can be considered a success. They came from behind in the middle of the second half to equalise after conceding early on against Everton (1:1). Although their opponent was not overly formidable, Leicester City created numerous problems for them: 17 shots (5 on target) and one strike off the woodwork. However, it's worth noting that the team has scored in every game, with their six goals exceeding their expected goals (xG) by two.
Walsall vs Leicester City Prediction
In January 2023, in the FA Cup at the Bescot Stadium, Leicester City narrowly won 1:0, scoring in the 68th minute. In that match, they had 28 shots, with only 7 on target. Now, their productivity has improved, and they are certain to score, while the hosts will also have their chances — they've found the net in the previous two rounds. We’re betting on both teams to score.
