Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the UEFA Champions League match
Young Boys approach the Champions League play-off round languishing at the bottom of the Swiss Super League table, while Galatasaray have bounced back from a heavy defeat in the Turkish Super Cup. The Istanbul side enters as the favourite, given their broader squad depth.
Young Boys
In their five Swiss Super League matches, Young Boys have conceded 13 goals (the worst record) and got only two points – only Grasshopper have fewer (1), having played four matches. Over the weekend, the team relieved some stress by thrashing the amateurs from Printse (10-0) in the Cup, but their defensive issues remain unresolved. The central defensive pairing of Mohamed Camara and Anel Husić have been prone to allowing chances even against the league’s outsiders. It’s worth noting that an elimination from the Champions League could cost their coach his job.
Galatasaray
Even in their heavy Turkish Super Cup loss to Beşiktaş (0:5), Galatasaray performed well in attack (7-3 in shots on target). In the league matches against Hatayspor and Konyaspor (both 2:1 wins), the team took advantage of efficient finishing, and potential Spartak newcomer Kerem Aktürkoğlu scored 1+1 in the last round. On Wednesday, the Istanbul club will use their strongest lineup – even defender Davinson Sanchez is expected to return from injury.
Young Boys - Galatasaray Prediction
Bookmakers have rightly chosen Galatasaray as the favourite for the first leg, despite Young Boys holding the home advantage. In Switzerland, the Turkish side is expected to create a lead ahead of the return leg, but to play it safe, it's better to bet on a (0) handicap.
