2025 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Winner Odds

After securing back-to-back victories, Verstappen has cut Norris’ lead to a record-low 12 points. Analysts and fans have since been crunching the numbers non-stop: what are Max’s chances, and what does he need to snatch the 2025 title at the last possible moment?

Given his recent form and the sheer motivation to overturn the standings right at the finish line, it is no surprise bookmakers now view Verstappen as the clear favourite for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Formula 1 Drivers' Championship Title Betting Odds

One of the most striking predictions ahead of the finale came from a man long regarded as one of the defining figures in Formula 1 history. Bernie Ecclestone is rarely seen in the paddock these days, yet he continues to follow the title fight with genuine interest – and insists he still believes in Max’s potential triumph.

Max will win the title. He deserves it. Yes, I used to say that Alain Prost was the greatest driver of all time; he had his own way of working in the cockpit, he never needed a team telling him what to do over the radio. But now I think the best driver I have ever seen is Max. He is unlike anyone else.

Fans also picked up on Ecclestone’s rather pointed remarks about current championship leader Lando Norris.

There is nothing wrong with Lando. He is a genuinely good driver, but he is too self-assured, too arrogant and believes too much in his own popularity. When the decisive moments arrive, he gets nervous.

One of the few to publicly back Norris ahead of the finale was his close friend Carlos Sainz, although he stressed he did not want to take sides.

I think this circuit suits Lando well. Over the years he has always had great pace in Abu Dhabi. Behind the wheel of the McLaren he should have a very good chance of becoming world champion.

Title permutations for each contender

Moving away from the paddock talk, it is worth focusing on the concrete maths that sets out the title-winning scenarios for all three drivers.

For Max, the permutations hardly look far-fetched. Norris will be laser-focused, but he has stumbled several times already this season, and nerves could still play a part when everything is on the line.

Norris’ pathway is far more straightforward. A podium finish will seal the title; even with a mistake from Verstappen, fourth place would be enough. And if Max drops out of the top three, Norris is guaranteed the championship.

Piastri’s situation is the most demanding of the trio. He must win – and also needs Norris to fall to at least sixth. It is the sort of scenario where only an incident might realistically swing things his way.

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix History

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is one of the newer additions to the Formula 1 calendar. The inaugural race took place in 2009, with Sebastian Vettel taking victory for Red Bull Racing-Renault.

Lewis Hamilton holds the record for the most wins at Yas Marina with 5, followed by Max Verstappen with 4. Vettel is third with 3.

Red Bull Racing lead the tally for most team victories with 7, Mercedes follow with 6, and McLaren occupy third place with 2.

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Prediction

The dramatic and unpredictable Yas Marina Circuit is the perfect setting for a title showdown involving three contenders. In many ways, it echoes the unforgettable 2010 finale, when Red Bull and Ferrari fans witnessed Fernando Alonso’s tense duel with Vitaly Petrov.

The question now is who becomes the ‘crucial’ second driver capable of ruining the race for one of the title favourites? And perhaps the biggest dilemma of all: will Oscar step aside for Lando if the latter desperately needs track position to save his title, or could Piastri end up handing the crown to Max?

Judging by recent pace, McLaren appear to have resolved their issues. Provided they avoid pit stop errors and do not compromise the race for either driver, Norris and Piastri should enjoy a serious straight-line advantage – enough to fight for the podium.

As for Max, with nothing to lose, he is ready to squeeze every last drop out of a relatively fresh power unit, while his rivals will be reluctant to risk their engines. They trust their pace; but if this season has taught us anything, it is never to write off Verstappen until the chequered flag falls.
