Belize can hardly find any positives in their head-to-head record against Panama, with their only notable result being a goalless draw at the Copa Centroamericana in 2017 — a result with little relevance in the current context.
At the moment, Belize are bottom of Group D in the second round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying. Their previous campaign ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar followed a similar trajectory, ending third in a group that lacked any high-level opposition. More recently, in the preliminary round of the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup, they suffered heavy defeats to Costa Rica (1:6, 0:7). Costa Rica are currently ranked 54th in the FIFA World Rankings.
Panama, in contrast, are positioned 33rd — just behind the trio of 2026 World Cup host nations: Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Their rise in the rankings has been fuelled by a strong performance in the 2024/25 Nations League, where they reached the final against Mexico. Despite a 1:2 defeat in that final, Panama's path to the decider was impressive. They knocked out Costa Rica in the quarter-finals (2:2, 1:0) before delivering a shock 1:0 win over the United States in the semi-finals, with Cecilio Waterman scoring the winner in the 94th minute.
Over the past eight years, Panama have shown significant development, and expectations are high for a commanding display against Belize.
