Erik ten Hag has finally been dismissed from Manchester United, while Steve Cooper appears to have weathered the storm with Leicester City. There’s little reason to question Cooper’s position, as he has only recently joined the club, unlike the Dutchman.
It seemed inevitable. It’s surprising that Erik ten Hag lasted as long as he did. The issues from last season were clearly visible from the start of this one, despite significant signings. At times, the team faced bad luck, but it's rarely just by chance. If they had won a few extra matches, the coach might have stayed in position, but the ongoing issues of the past 2.5 years would have persisted. Now, at least for the EFL Cup match, Ruud van Nistelrooy is set to prepare the team.
Leicester City looked somewhat disoriented in their last encounter with Nottingham Forest. The final score of 1:3 does not tell the whole story, as Nottingham Forest had two other clear chances. Maybe their previous opponents were easier? You could say that about Southampton, but Bournemouth were a tough one. It's now a guessing game to see what kind of opponent Manchester United will be.
The new manager effect should take hold, and head-to-head meetings during the time of the now former manager Erik ten Hag favoured the Manchester side: two clean sheet victories (3:0, 1:0).
